As some of you already know, Elie (aka Moussaka) passed away early Monday evening at the General Campus of the Ottawa Hospital. Elie did not want a religious funeral and wanted his body to be cremated, so that is what we will be doing. We will also be arranging a celebration of his life sometime in the future, probably during the next three to five weeks; I will do my best to let everyone know about that once the details have been sorted out. Obituary in the Ottawa Citizen for Moussalli, Elie Ibrahim
On September 3, 2012 at the Ottawa Hospital, General Campus. Born in Beirut, Lebanon on August 2, 1947, Elie was predeceased by his parents Ibrahim and Ester and brother Sami. He will be sorely missed by his wife Kathleen and his beloved daughter Rima, his brothers Tony and Issa Moussalli and sister Yvonne Moussalli, his nephews Robert (Caroline) and Roland (Rosie) Barbar and Marc Moussalli (Sylvia), his niece Reine Barbar, and their children Gaelle, Romy, Emma-Kate and Olivia, as well as his many friends. Visitation will be on September 7, 2012 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry at 315 McLeod Street in Ottawa.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Myeloma Canada (Donations), Prostate Cancer Canada (Donations), or the American University of Beirut (Donations). Friends can also remember Elie by participating in the Ottawa-Gatineau Myeloma March on September 23, 2012. A celebration of Elie's life will be held at a later date.

Update Sept. 18,2012
Rima has finally created her Myeloma March team -- "Team Moussaka." She would love to have any friends of Elie who are interested join her team, so maybe you could pass this message on to anyone you think might be interested. It is my understanding that people who have already registered for the March can add themselves to a team if they want to. Here is a link to the page for joining a team.

Not knowing what to expect, Rima and I set a fundraising goal of $1,000 for her team, but if my brother joins the team we will easily surpass it as he has already made it onto the Top 10 list of fundraisers. I know Elie would appreciate any contributions anyone might make -- even just having people turn out for the event would have meant a lot to him. I just wish he could have been here to see it himself.

Kristen Adrienne Rannie Hatz

August 20, 1986-September 30, 2012 Passed away peacefully at age 26 in the presence of those she loved, from complications of metastatic melanoma. Cherished only child of Jean Rannie and Joe Hatz. Fiancée and best friend of Wayne Barry. Will be sorely missed by her aunt and uncle, Claire Rannie and Tim Roach, as well as Wayne's parents, Christine and Wayne Barry Sr. and their extended family. Kristen is also mourned by friends and colleagues at the Primrose Family Medicine Centre, the Pinecrest Recreation Centre, where she was a lifeguard and swim instructor for many years, and Blossom Park Public School, where she was a student teacher during the completion of her B. Ed. Special thanks to Drs. Young and Eapen, PDN's Sandra and Tawny and the staff in Radiation North at the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre. Our deepest gratitude to Dr. Susan Gick (Community Palliative Care Associates), the WeCare nursing staff and Nurse Elena from Bayshore Home Health for their care and compassion during Kristen's final days. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Ottawa ( www.sascottawa.org) or the Champlain Community Access Centre ( www.champlain.ccac-ont.ca ) would be greatly appreciated by Kristen's family. Rattle Me Bones, Sun Oct 28

This race, a major fund-raiser for the Ottawa Hospital, is again being organized by former OH3 GM, Gump, otherwise known as Kent Woodhall.
OH3 have a strong tradition of supporting this race by volunteering. Course marshalls & water station workers are needed.
It will be an early start (approx.7am) but you will be rewarded with a great long-sleeved t-shirt, Fat Ass's great chili, & the entertainment of several Hashers pacing in skeleton costumes.
A great way to banish hang-overs from Downwind's party the night before!

Memorial service for Elie Moussalli

Although almost two months have slipped by since Elie passed away on September 3rd, he remains in our thoughts.  We hope you will be able to join us at a memorial service to celebrate Elie's life, to be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, December 2, 2012.  The service will be followed by a reception from 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm, where we can continue to celebrate Elie's many contributions while enjoying some of his favourite foods. Both the service and the reception will be held at the First Unitarian Church at 30 Cleary Avenue in Ottawa.

Update:

I have some bad news about the New Year's Eve party. There are just not enough of us to make a go of it this year. We will still be having the Hash House Harriers Run and Dinner, but we really don't have the numbers of people needed for the typical wild party that I like to host.

We will have the run and dinner, but rather than the typical wild ringing in the New Year here, many of you will be off in other locations. I am certainly happy to leave you here to ring the new year in, but by midnight I expect to be in the market, dancing with a girl under each arm.

Sorry for the late notice on this, but it was really not turning out to be what was expected.
